ghost lamp
Product Design | Lighting Design
ghost was developed to be a beautiful and functional lighting fixture that caters to changing environments. An array of cool and warm LEDs located inside the fixture can be independently controlled by the user to change the color temperature. This way the user can modify the mood of the environment the fixture is in. For a cozier environment, such as a dinner, the fixture can be set to a warmer temperature. A cooler temperature can be used to keep the environment more dynamic.
An array of six high power 1W LEDs are arranged inside the light fixture - half are cool (6000K) and the other warm (3000K). They are APA102C LEDs that measure 5x5 mm and have a view angle of 160º. The LEDs are controlled by an Arduino Uno R3 and two potentiometers. This allows maximum flexibility in the design, since other sensors can be integrated in the circuit to cater different needs.
Moving forward, several preset temperature values can be set for different settings and programmed into the fixture. Additionally, an astronomical clock can be programmed to change the color temperature of the fixture as the day passes in order to represent daylight in an interior setting. The fixture can be expanded into a product family that includes a table, floor and pendant lamp. Further sketches and exploration on installation, scale and form will be completed.
